Autism South Africa has been in existence since 1987 and is the recognised, authoritative national body for all people with autism in our country. Autism, which is a lifelong, extremely complex condition that affects brain development and functioning, is significantly on the increase. With reference to internationally accepted research into the incidence of autism, in South Africa, every 45 minutes a child with autism is being born. Autism South Africa has never received any government support, replying purely on the generosity of the corporate sector and individuals. Despite vast fiscal challenges, Autism South Africa has made a definite  and beneficial impact on the empowerment and support of parents, early childhood development, transformation of services, training of professionals and they endlessly distribute vast amounts of information on a national basis.
