Child Trace is a non-profit organization that works to raise awareness for issues of child safety with the main focus being child trafficking. Since official statistics were launched in 1994, an estimated 1200 children are reported missing each year in our country and over 10% of these are never found. Child Trace (CTI) is the first organization of its kind to offer a child identification initiative. The Child Identification Initiative (CIDI) was developed due to the lack of identification and verification systems for children under the age of 16. Child Trace saw the need for the development of such an Initiative in South Africa to help combat the child trafficking pandemic and the increasing number of missing children.
